The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) online application for admission to undergraduate & postgraduate study programmes for both South African and international citizens close on specific dates in the year preceding the year of study. The closing date for CPUT online applications for 2024/2025 for MASTER’S DEGREE & M TECH (Full Research), DOCTORAL DEGREE & D TECH is 15 March 2024. (This date is for both domestic and international applicants).

Cape Peninsula University of Technology Aspirants from South Africa and other countries for undergraduate and postgraduate can take note of the following online application information.
Step 1: Choose a qualification
We offer more than 70 career-focused programmes. The documents and links below will help you choose the programme that’s right for you.
The Prospectus booklet and pamphlets contains the admission requirements for all the programmes presented at CPUT, as well as general admission information, qualification structures, and details about where each programme is presented. Prospective students are encouraged to check the subject and mark requirements of the programme they want to study before applying.
Also note that the full acceptance to the programme will be based on the Final Grade 12 results.

Step 2: Gather your documents or upload further/ outstanding documents

A number of documents must be submitted with your application. Do not send any original documents, only send certified copies must be attached to your manual application form. Copies of documents can be certified at a police station.

Documents to be submitted by South African citizens:
- Copy of the proof of payment of your application fee (online application submission is free of charge).
- A certified copy of the first page of your Identity Document.
- A certified copy of your Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification. If you are currently in Grade 12, please submit your marks obtained in Grade 11.
- An original Academic Record and a Certificate of Conduct, or certified copies of other certificates/ diplomas/ degrees you obtained previously from any other higher education institution.
- Any other documents specifically required for the programme to which you are applying, as explained in the application form and admission requirements. Also, refer to Step 1 for detailed admission requirements
Documents to be submitted by non-South African citizens:
- Certified copies of the following applicable documents (must be less than three (3) months old)
- Permanent Residency applicants: Passport and Proof of Permanent Residency/SA ID Document/Card
- Refugee/Asylum seeker temporary permit/formal recognition of refugee status in the RSA
- Passport
- A certified copy of your school-leaving certificate, together with an English translation.
- A scratch card (students from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO).
- Congo-Brazzaville applicants must submit the Liste des Admis au Bac
- Sixth-year Bulletin: Diplom D’Etat and Journal and transcripts of results or Journal or Confirmation of Results from the Embassy (students from Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo or Cameroon).
- International/Foreign Post-Basic Nursing applicants need to submit a document indicating approval of nursing qualifications from, and certified by, South African Qualification Authority (SAQA), in order to be provisionally accepted. Full acceptance will only be considered if the applicant also submits proof of temporary registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) for two (2) years, in addition to a valid study permit.
- Any other documents specifically required for the programmes to which you are applying, as explained in the application form and special admission requirements covered in Step 1.
All international undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications obtained must first be evaluated and verified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before submitting applications for studying at CPUT. SAQA can be contacted at Postnet Suite 248, Private Bag X06, Waterkloof 0145, South Africa. Tel: +27 (0)12 431 5000; Website: www.saqa.org.za The onus is on the student to apply timeously to SAQA, as this may take a bit longer. Applicants with approved qualifications obtained outside the Republic of South Africa (RSA):
An applicant may qualify for admission on the basis of qualifications obtained outside the RSA, whether they are SA citizens or not. Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis.
- School leaving certificate should be submitted with the English translation of the certificate
- SAQA Evaluation certificate (see SAQA information outlined above) is mandatory and must be submitted together with your online or paper-based application
Foreign/International school-leaving certificates held by South African citizens:
SA citizens who are holders of foreign/international certificates (e.g. Cambridge International Examinations) can be admitted ONLY IF they meet the minimum requirements for studying at a university in South Africa, and in addition, meet the minimum admission requirements of the programme they are applying for (according to the faculty-specific requirements). Each case will be dealt with on an individual basis.
SAQA Evaluation certificate (see SAQA information outlined above) is mandatory and must be submitted together with your online or paper-based application.

- Each document must be scanned, saved and uploaded individually against each uploading Certificate code as indicated in the table below
- All documents should be scanned in any of the following file types: tiff, pdf, jpg or gif
- The maximum scanned file size is 2MB each.

All applications must be submitted online only except for the following category of applications:

There are two ways you can get a form to apply for admission:

2. Collect a printed form at the Registration and Applications Office on the various campuses.
Some qualifications require applicants to submit additional information as part of their application. Please see the Additional admission requirements for more information.
No manual posted or over the counter applications will be accepted for any other course other than above exceptions.
Please note that applicants are limited to three choices (to be filled in on one form). Any further applications will be discarded.
Step 3.1: Filling in the application form
Use your official documents to help you fill in the application form. Read the application form’s instructions carefully and fill in all the required sections. Incomplete forms will not be processed.
Here are some tips to help you fill in the form correctly.
- Your name, surname, and identity number or passport number must be filled in exactly as they are written in your identity document or passport.
- When filling in the qualification you want to study, make sure that you use the correct name of the qualification. Check the name of the qualification on the CPUT website or in the prospectus booklet.
- Applicants are limited to three choices (to be filled in on one form). Any further applications will be discarded.
- If you want to stay in a CPUT residence, tick Yes in the appropriate block and complete the residence application form at the back of the application form. You will not be allocated a place in a residence if you do not tick Yes and complete the residence application form. Residence space is not guaranteed.
- You address is the address where you live permanently. Ask your parents for a municipal bill and copy the address from the bill.
- Even if you are going to apply for a bursary or loan you must fill in the details of the person who is responsible for paying your fees since bursaries and loans are not guaranteed.
- Read through and complete the legal undertaking in full.
- Complete the checklist at the back of the form.
- Read through the form again to make sure you have filled in all the information.
Step 3.2: Paying the application fee
You must pay a R100 non-refundable application fee before your application form can be processed. You must attach a copy of the proof of payment to your application form. Keep the original proof of payment in a safe place.
A non-refundable late application fee of R150 is applicable to applications submitted after the official closing date. Late applications are only accepted if late applications have been officially announced by the institution on its website.

1. Cash payments, which can be made directly at the Cashiers’ Office on your preferred campus.

Step 3.3: Send in your form and documents
Completed application forms and accompanying documents must be submitted to the Admissions Office. You can submit your application form and accompanying documents in two ways:
1. Forms can be hand-delivered at the campus where the programme is offered. The venues of offering of all programmes are outlined in the application form.
2. Forms can also be posted to the Admissions Office at the campus where the programme is offered, by using the addresses below.
