Matric Results 2022 / 2023 | Check your NSC Results in several ways

The Department of Basic Education has released the results for the 2022/2023 Matric exam rewrites, also known as the Second Chance Matric Programme. Over 230 000 candidates sat for this round of Matric exams.

The Matric Class of 2022 achieved a national pass rate of 76.4% which is an increase of 0.2% when compared to 2020.  As far as provincial Matric pass rates went, these are how the provinces performed:

  • Free State: 85.7%
  • Gauteng: 82.8%
  • Western Cape: 81.2%.
  • North West: 78.2%
  • Kwazulu-Natal: 76.8%
  • Mpumalanga: 73.6%
  • Eastern Cape: 73%
  • Northern Cape: 71.4%
  • Limpopo: 66.7%

The department has also announced the following important dates for the 2022 matriculants:

•  20 January 2022– Minister announces results

•  21 January 2022 – Provinces release results.

•  27 October 2022 – National Senior Certificate exams commence.

•  7 December 2022 – Last day of matric exams.

•  6  January 2022 – Umalusi evaluates results.

Checking Matric Results 2022 / 2023 in 7 Ways

The Matric Results can be accessed using four methods. This includes checking 2022 Matric Results Online, Newspaper, High School and Cell phone methods. Each of these methods is explained respectively in the following section.

1. Check Matric Results Online

Matric Results have been successfully uploaded online, follow the below steps to check your result:

CHECKING RESULTS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION WEBSITE:

 

  • Go to the Department of Basic Education Matric Results Portal – https://www.education.gov.za/MatricResults/ExamResults/tabid/175/Default.aspx
  • Enter your ID Number and Matric Examination Number in the required field
  • Click on the ‘Search‘ button to access your Matric 2022 Results
  • Note: You may need the following to log in: Exam number, Home Language, Your personal details (name, surname, etc.)
  • The DBE website is zero-rated, which means it can be accessed whether you have data or not.

  • The DBE website is zero-rated, which means it can be accessed whether you have data or not.
  • The results reflected on the website are the results of the 2020 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination.
  • The Statement of Results is available at the school/exam centre where the candidate wrote.
  • Some candidates’ results may be excluded from the results published on the website because of technical reasons. If a candidate’s results do not show, kindly visit the school/exam centre where you wrote.
  • The Department of Basic Education reserves the right to change any of the information published on the website.
  • If you attended a public/government school, then your results will definitely be available on this site.

CHECKING 2022 MATRIC RESULT VIA IEB (Independent Examinations Board):

  • Go to the IEB Matric Results 2022 Portal via http://www.ieb-online.co.za/asp/login.aspx
  • Enter your Exam Number & Date of Birth in the required field
  • Click on the ‘Submit‘ button to access your Matric 2022 / 2023 Results

Bear in mind that website traffic will be high on the release date, so expect delayed response times.

CHECKING 2022 MATRIC RESULT VIA NEWS24 WEBSITE:

  • Go to the News24 Matric Results 2022 Portal via https://www.news24.com/news24/matricresults
  • Enter your Matric Examination Number in the required field
  • Select your exam type, either NSC or IEB.
  • Click on the ‘Search‘ button to access your Matric 2022 Results
  • Note: You may also search NSC Result by province on the News24 website.

2. MatricsMate App

  • Download the MatricsMate app from Google Play Store or Apple Play Store
  • Enter your 13-digit ID number and examination number.
  • You will then be able to view the matric results as soon as they are available.

3. Gauteng Matric Results Online

  • The department says that the GPG Matric App allows you to access your results using your smartphone or any device with internet access as soon as the results are released.

  • Enter your exam number and search.

4. Your High School

You can check your Matric 2022 Results at your High School.

  • A day after the initial results are released, your school will give you your results.
  • Note: This is not the official matric certificate, it’s just your results for each subject.
  • You will be able to obtain your official matric certificate once it has been printed in full.
  • If you are eager to get exact dates you should contact your school to find out further information.

5. Matric Results on Newspaper

 

Your results will be published in the National Newspapers on the result release date. It will be in all of the big Newspaper brands, like The RapportThe Argus and The Star.

Remember it will not be your full results. It will just state whether or not you passed and with what symbol you passed – B for Bachelors PassD for Diploma, etc.

6. Your Cell phone

 

You can use your cell phone (or someone else’s) to receive your results. SABC Education and the Department of Basic Education have provided a service that allows you to get an SMS with your results. You can register and have your results sent to you as soon as they are released.

  • Register via SMS
    • Send your exam number to 35658
    • You’ll get a confirmation SMS once you’ve successfully registered.
    • Answer a few multiple-choice questions.
    • Get your matric results immediately when they are released
  • Use the USSD service
    • Register using the USSD code *120*35658#
    • Answer a few multiple questions
    • Enter your ID number
    • You will get your matric results per subject
    • USSD rates apply

You can also go old school by phoning to access your matric results. Beware that lots of matric students will be phoning to find out their results so you might wait for quite a while to get your results.
