UCT Physics Requirements

The requirements for undertaking the University of Cape Town (UCT) Physics.

Admission to our undergraduate degree programme depends on a number of criteria and whether or not an applicant has previously studied at a tertiary institution.

The links below provide an overview of admission criteria for those writing the South African National Senior Certificate (NSC), for those writing International Board Examinations, and those who are wishing to transfer from another tertiary institution to UCT.

Applications to study Physics at UCT are made online from the main page of the UCT web site. See the Department of Physics Handbook.

BSc degree leading to a major in Physics.

Apply online and specify your major and co-major. Popular co-majors with Physics are Astrophysics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics and Computer Science.

BSc(Honours) post graduate degree in Physics.

Apply online, but also contact the department directly. Both the Science Faculty Office and the Department need to accept you.
