Dates for auditions
All prospective Music students are invited to contact the OSM to make audition appointments and complete the Audition Form. These forms should reach the OSM at least one week in advance.
Content and Requirements for Audition
Music Theory and Musical Knowledge
Candidates will be required to write a test equivalent to the following levels:

Repertoire
Candidates should prepare a performance of three contrasting pieces from different style periods on their principal instrument. The level of this repertoire is as follows:

Second Instrument
It is possible for candidates to begin a second instrument in their first year of study without having had tuition in that instrument. However, candidates who have had tuition in a second instrument and plan to present the instrument as part of their degree studies are requested to prepare two contrasting pieces from different style periods for their audition.
Candidates intending to offer Singing as a second instrument, even if they have had no tuition, should likewise prepare two contrasting vocal pieces for their audition.
Candidates should inform the Odeion School of Music if they are presenting pieces in a second instrument, so that the applicable lecturer(s) can be present at their auditions.
Technical work
Candidates should also prepare to be evaluated on instrument-specific technical materials such as scales or a study, and should bring a list of prepared scales or studies with them to the audition for that purpose.
Aural and sight-reading skills
Aural and sight-reading tests at the appropriate level will be conducted during the audition.
Finally, candidates should complete the OSM selection form before their audition. It may be brought to the audition or sent ahead to the reception office. Ms Luzanne Eigelaar and Mr Eljee du Plooy are also the contact persons for scheduling individual auditions (+27 51 401 2810) or osm@ufs.ac.za.
