UFS Center for Microscopy Requirements

The requirements for undertaking the University of the Free State (UFS) Center for Microscopy.

The Centre for Microscopy is situated in the Biology Building on the Bloemfontein Campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) and has some of the most advanced microscopy facilities in South Africa.

Equipment available at the centre

  • JSM-7800F Extreme-resolution Analytical Field Emission SEM
  • Philips CM100 Analytical Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM)
  • Nikon E-2000 Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (CLSM)
  • Nikon AZ100 Stereo Microscope

The centre, under the directorship of Prof Terblans, provides microscopy services to all the departments at the UFS, as well as other universities, research institutions and private companies. The support services in the centre make it possible for researchers to hand in their material to be prepared and examined with any of the microscopes. Learners and graduate students are also welcome to visit the centre (by appointment) for demonstrations.
