The requirements for undertaking the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) B Social Work .
The following Masters Programmes are offered in the Discipline of Social Work:
- Family Therapy Theory
- Family Therapy Practice
- Management in Human Service Organizations or Advanced Social Work Theory
- Research Methodology
- Mini-dissertation
Entrance requirements:
- A four year Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
- A minimum average of 60% in final year theory social work modules
- A minimum of 65% in the final year research module
- Evidence of advanced academic writing skills
- Applicants with work experience in the welfare sector will be given preference.

Two research masters degrees are offered: the Masters in Social Work (MSW) and the Masters in Social Science (MSocSc).
Candidates are required to attend research methodology workshops and complete a research dissertation on a topic of their choice approved by the School Research Committee.
Entrance requirements for the above named masters programmes are:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (four years) or related discipline (three years plus an honour’s degree)
- An overall minimum average of 65% in final year modules
- Evidence of advanced academic writing skills
