About the Department
The Department of Public Health was established in 1998 and is one of the Faculty of Health Sciences departments. The department offers the following programs: Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health, Master of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health. These programs are designed to prepare professionals for playing leadership roles in health promotion, disease control and prevention locally, regionally and globally.

Head of Department: Dr Ntsieni Stella Mashau
Head of Department’s Profile
Doctor Ntsieni Stella Mashau is an academic who holds the following qualifications: Diploma in General Nursing Science and Diploma in Midwifery Science, both obtained from Venda Nursing College (VNC), Diploma in Nursing Science (Primary Health Care, Diagnosis and Treatment) obtained from the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), Bachelor of Arts Degree (Bcur) in Nursing Science and Bcur (Hons) both obtained from the University of South Africa (UNISA), Magister Curations (MCur) and Ph.D. in Rural Development both obtained from the University of Venda. Her Ph.D. research focused on Community Home-Based Care, vital for rural health promotion and disease prevention. She is currently working as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Public Health. Her responsibilities include facilitation of teaching and learning, postgraduate research supervision, research, community engagement, and coordination of departmental activities.

- Admission Requirements:
• Any Health-Related NQF level 7 qualification with an overall average percentage of 60% in the final year.
• Applicants with foreign qualifications must obtain the National Qualification Framework (NQF) exit level 7 after their certificates are evaluated by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).
• All university rules and regulations apply to this Post Graduate Diploma.
